Brewers Are HOT, HOT, HOT in the First 6 Innings

Published on June 14, 2011 by | 2 Comments | 1,289 views

Have you been watching the Brewers play at all this June?  Can you believe they are one of the hottest teams in the League right now?  With forces like Braun and Fielder leading the pack, the hitting for the Brewers just seems to be clicking.  Even guys like Kotsay (hitting .254) and Lucroy (hitting .271) are really holding their own at the plate.  Watching, and listening, to the Brewer games have been a lot of fun this year, but as a long time listener, it really starts to get nerve racking around that 6 or 7th inning when the first relief guy steps on the mound.

The “middle relief” has a combined 14 loses up to this point in 2011.  That is just too many times and I understand that you might have a game where you are only in front by one run, but the “hold” is even more important then.  Right now, Kameron Loe is the one name that creates a special silence over the crowd when he is called in.  He has a 2-6 record and of the 32 innings pitched,  he has given up 19 ER, 4 HR’s, walked 10 and hit 2 batters.  He does have 27 strikeouts which is nice, but that one stat doesn’t really silence the groans.

I am not going to go off and compare Loe to Suppan, but that ERA of 5.23 has got to start coming down.  At least for right now, I am not sure why Loe is the go to 6th/7th inning guy?  Hawkins has pitched well, why not give him a couple more innings per week?  Mitre and Estrade have also held their own when the team needed them, when compared to Loe anyways.

What do you think about the Brewers activity after the starting pitching takes a seat?

i don’t way in often cuz i’m not really a stats guy, just a neighborhood fan of kam loe, but it seems there’s a trend among pitchers around both leagues in similar positions as set guys. is it kam is not doing his job or that that’s the name of the game when you are thrown out there to get some of the best hitters out in crucial situations? here are a few names i compared kam to: matsuzaka, papalbon, bush, blanton, mota, durbin, benoit, enright. i agree his era has to come down right now for milwaukee to stay on top, but i think he’s a darn good pitcher with a great sinker that just has to figure out how to keep the hitters guessing while throwing strikes.

I agree 100%. I think too many people are giving Loe a hard time after one or two outings. Super sinker all the way!!
