Last year was a big year for the new closer, John Axford. Finally getting his chance after veteran Trevor Hoffman’s many miscues, Axford has gained quite a fan base. I think it might have helped a little bit to actually be able to close a game for the Brewers, but things like his social media presence helped as well.

This year will be Axfords third season, after only 7 games in 2009 and 50 in 2010, we should be able to get a great look at what Axford can do when given the time of an entire season. With 76 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched and saving 24 games in 2010, let’s hope that Axford can keep up on the pace for 2011.
